Documentation / Getting started
Adding your first client
Point Genie at a network. He discovers the estate, builds the asset model, profiles the posture and drafts the agreement.
Before you start
- A network range, or credentials for a domain controller
- Somewhere to install a site collector — see Site collectors
- The client's maintenance window, if you already know it
- Your rate card configured, if you want the agreement drafted with prices
The ten stages
Onboarding runs as a resumable pipeline. Every pass works the first unfinished stage, so an interruption loses nothing.
| Stage | What happens | Tier |
|---|---|---|
| Discover | Sweeps the range, identifies what responds | acts |
| Populate | Builds configuration items with evidence | acts |
| Topology | Maps what connects to what | acts |
| Posture | Profiles security state, raises findings | acts |
| Coverage | Establishes what is monitored and what is not | acts |
| Monitoring | Proposes what to monitor and how | asks |
| Agreement | Drafts from discovered counts and your rate card | asks |
| Ticketing | Proposes the service configuration | asks |
| Review | Presents everything for your approval | waits |
| Activate | Goes live once you approve | waits |
Unreachable is not empty
A subnet Genie could not reach is recorded unreachable and its stage stays incomplete. It is never recorded as containing nothing.
This matters more than it sounds. A discovery that quietly reports zero devices on a subnet it could not reach produces an asset model missing a whole floor of a building — and nobody finds out until something breaks on it.
What he will not do
He cannot activate the agreement. Committing to a client is a person's act, and it stays one at every autonomy tier.
He cannot draft a rate he was not given. Where an asset class has no rate on your card, the line renders unpriced with the reason rather than carrying an invented figure.
Reviewing the result
The review screen presents three lists separately and never merges them: what he observed, what he could not reach, and what he is uncertain about.
They stay separate deliberately. A screen that blends findings with gaps asks you to approve the gaps along with the findings.

Thirty days · read-only · no card
Run it beside what you already have, against your real clients. It tells you what your tools are reporting that is not true.
